Key Highlights
- Ford will unveil the 2017 EcoSport at the Sao Paulo Auto Show in November
- The 2017 EcoSport will get a revised front and rear with new features
- Engine options will remain the same on the India spec version
First launched in India in 2013, the Ford EcoSport certainly took India by storm and had a fantastic public debut at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. It was a compact SUV which nailed the brief in terms of ride and handling, features and of course pricing. Ford had primarily developed the EcoSport keeping in the automotive markets in the Asia-Pacific region, but thanks to rising demand in other countries,
Ford had no option but to export the car.
It didn't work for all markets though, as the decision backfired because certain markets already had existing models in the same segment like the Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V and the Renault Captur, which might come to India soon, and Ford couldn't quite get it to sell in such markets. This was reason enough for the American manufacturer to start working on a facelift for the EcoSport.
From what we see, the alloys and the rubber surrounding might have gone up an inch or so in size. A few design elements too have been picked up from its larger siblings - the Edge and the Escape SUVs.
From the pictures we can see that the headlamps have been tweaked slightly and now look sleeker wile the front grille too sees some changes. These will add muscle and substance to the exteriors and give it a robust look. There are some changes to the interiors as well and no, it won't get a roll cage as you see in the picture.
It will however get a host of changes inside the cabin and we'll see a new dashboard and HVAC controls. In fact SYNC 3 will also make it into the EcoSport and this means Ford will up the ante. There will be no 4x4 version, in case you are thinking along those lines. We might see it hit the Indian market next year but from what we hear, work has already begun on the next generation of the compact SUV.
