Jeep to Unveil New SUV at the Sao Paulo Motor Show

- The new '551' model will be positioned just above the Renegade
- It will be locally assembled in Fiat's plant near Pune
- It might come to India sometime in 2017
Jeep is all set to reveal its latest SUV, which has been code-named '551', at the Sao Paulo Motor Show. The motor show will be held in November this year. The '551' is basically a small SUV and will be replacing the Patriot and the Compass in international markets. The American manufacturer might also stick with the Compass name as it did well for itself. Jeep will most likely position this new SUV right above the Renegade, which is the smallest car in its portfolio. We believe that the design language will be of the '551' will be similar to that of the Grand Cherokee. Also, Jeep will begin assembling it in India at Fiat's Ranjangaon plant sometime in 2017. The new small SUV from Jeep will have a 170bhp, 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine which will be manufactured locally, helping to keep the costs down.
The Jeep brand has been long time coming to India. It showcased the Grand Cherokee and its SRT derivative along with the Wrangler at the 2016 Auto Expo. Jeep will be bringing these 3 models as completely built Units (CBUs). In due course of time, it will also get two small SUVs as CKDs, which will be assembled at Fiat's plant near Pune. The Fiat plant in Pune will be Jeep's fourth manufacturing facility in the world.
Also, spy shots of the Jeep Renegade have been found testing in India as well. So Jeep might, just might, bring five vehicles (Grand Cherokee Twins, Wrangler, Renegade and the new '551' SUV) in all to India, in due course of time.
