Kia Carens 1.4 Turbo CNG Spotted Testing For The First Time

- The Kia Carens CNG has been spotted for the first time in India.
- Kia India is likely to offer CNG option with the 1.4-litre turbo motor.
- The Kia Sonet Turbo CNG is also undergoing testing.
Kia India seems to have quite a few CNG models in the pipeline. The Kia Sonet 1.0 Turbo CNG was recently spotted testing around its Anantapur plant and now spy pictures of the CNG version of the Carens MPV have surfaced online. The CNG test mule in the picture sources power from the 1.4-litre, four-cylinder Turbo petrol engine while we don't have any confirmation about Kia considering CNG option for the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, natural-aspirated petrol engine as well. According to news reports, the Kia Carens Turbo CNG is also expected to roll out before Sonet CNG, making it the first Turbo CNG model to go on sale in the country.

The Kia Sonet 1.0 Turbo CNG unit was also spotted testing around its Anantpur plant.
The test mule in the picture is also equipped with a CNG tank and it is expected to be offered in the six-speed manual transmission variants. Kia might also be specifically evaluating the Turbo petrol engine for CNG conversion as the 1.5-litre petrol motor could feel a bit underpowered with six or seven passengers on board. The 1.4-litre Turbo petrol engine in the Kia Carent belts out 138 bhp at 6000 rpm and 242 Nm of peak torque at 1500 - 3200 rpm. The engine comes with either a seven-speed dual clutch transmission or a six-speed manual transmission on the standard petrol-powered variant.

The Kia Carens 1.4 Turbo petrol is offered with the option of both manual and automatic transmissions.
In fact, Kia India not only has these CNG models scheduled in the near future, but as we exclusively reported, it is also gearing up to launch the Kia EV6 electric crossover in our market and is already accepting pre-bookings for the same.
