According to reports, Maruti Suzuki introduced a price hike across its entire range with the sole exception of the S-Cross. Though the carmaker is yet to make an announcement, the hike, that has been in effect since August 11, 2015, translates to an increase in prices by Rs 3,000 - Rs 9,000. This makes the country's largest carmaker to introduce a price hike recently - Hyundai also increased prices by upto Rs 30,000 last month.
It is said the revised prices are to accommodate "changes in dealer margin and a minor calibration in prices".
One must note that Hyundai's price hike also excluded the Creta SUV, which was also launched 10 days before the price hike. However, unlike Maruti Suzuki, the South Korean carmaker said its hike was "necessitated by increase of input costs. We have been absorbing most of the costs but now we are constrained to consider the price increase in these challenging market environment".
As surprising as the news seems, folks in industry believe that the festive season and the usually high demand experienced during this time will mitigate the increase.
