Maruti Suzuki Reports Delivery Backlog Of Over 2 Lakh Cars Due To Chip Shortage

Maruti Suzuki has reported that the company is currently facing a backlog of more than 2 lakh pending customer orders in India. The company says this is mainly to the challenges caused by the global shortage in the supply of electronic components, which has taken a big hit on vehicle production. The announcement came as part of the company financial results for the second quarter (Q2) FY2021-22, during which the company's profits came down by over 65 per cent to 475 crore.

Maruti Suzuki India says that during the quarter that ended on September 30, 2021, an estimated Rs. 1.16 lakh vehicles could not be produced owing to the electronics component shortage mostly corresponding to the domestic models. In fact, Maruti Suzuki has even predicted a 40 per cent drop in vehicle production for the month of October 2021, due to the shortage of electronic components. The company says that right now it's making all efforts to expedite deliveries.

During the July-September 2021 quarter, Maruti Suzuki India's total sales stood a total of 379,541 units, a marginal decline of 3.4 per cent compared to 393,130 units sold in Q2 FY2021. Exports, on the other hand, stood at 59,408 units, the highest ever in any quarter. In September, Maruti Suzuki India's total sales stood at 86,380 units, witnessing a 46 per cent decline compared to 160,442 vehicles sold in September 2020.
