Highlights

  • The Maruti Suzuki XL6 could be launched on August 21, 2019
  • It will share its engine and transmission with the Ertiga
  • It will get a new, muscular design with added exterior features

Maruti Suzuki's next big launch will be the XL6 crossover, which is based on the Ertiga. The company has officially released the sketches of the XL6 and even though it is based on the Ertiga, it almost looks like a brand new model. Reports suggest that the XL6 could be launched on August 21, 2019 and it will be sold through Maruti's Nexa dealerships instead of the Arena chain. The XL6 gets a refreshed design, with added muscle in form of a new grille up front, chunky roof-rails and plastic claddings all around. The headlamp cluster will be redesigned as well, getting black inserts and new LED daytime running lamp design.

Talking about the design of the car, Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, "Maruti Suzuki is ready to roll out the next level of excitement with the XL6, a premium MPV, at NEXA showrooms across the country. Apart from the space and functionality that the customers desire for, the all new XL6 offers a blend of sporty design and premium interiors, which will help it in establishing its niche in the MPV segment."

The cabin too is more or less similar to that of the Ertiga and gets similar styling. Spyshots confirm that the XL6 will be a six-seater with captain seats in the middle row, making it a 2+2+2 layout. Visually, the cabin of the XL6 is draped in all-black so as to differentiate it from the Ertiga.

Under the hood, we expect the new Maruti Suzuki XL6 to share its powertrains with the Ertiga which are the 1.5-litre K15 petrol and the 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine, both mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while the petrol model could get the 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as well. We expect the petrol engine to be BS6 compliant right from the launch itself and the diesel engine could be phased out when the BS6 norms kick in by April 2020.
