Highlights

Hyundai Verna had been the best-selling mid-sized sedan for quite a long time before its lost the title to the new-generation Honda City. And now that Maruti has rolled out the Ciaz in the country, it has become necessary for Hyundai to update the Verna; sooner the better. If sources are to be believed, the company has started testing the updated model in the country and is planning to launch it in the first quarter of 2015.

The Korean automaker recently launched the updated Verna, known as Solaris, in Russia. The Russian version of the sedan now features the Fluidic 2.0 design philosophy, which makes it look similar to the Sonata. We expect similar updates on the India-bound version as well.

The updated Verna is expected to sport a slightly modified front fascia with larger head-lamps, redesigned bumper with LED daytime running lights, new fog-lamps, dual-slat chrome grille and a bigger airdam. The rear profile of the car will not see any major changes except the new LEDs and new reflectors on the bumper. The cabin will most probably remain unchanged, though the company might add some more features.

Mechanically, the car will remain unchanged. It will continue to be offered with two petrol (1.4-litre & 1.6-litre) and two diesel (1.4 and 1.6 CRDi) engines.
