New Tata Sierra SUV To Get An All-Wheel Drive Option

- Sierra will be the only Tata car to have an AWD system
- SUV has come with 2 Petrol and 1 Diesel engine options
- It has been launched starting at Rs. 11.49 lakh
The Tata Sierra nameplate is back, and the SUV is now launched in the market at an introductory price of Rs. 11.49 lakh. While the brand has not revealed the prices of other variants of the SUV, it has confirmed that the all-wheel drive version is on the cards, and Sierra could become the first and only product in the Tata Motors lineup to get that option. The Tata Safari and Tata Harrier still do not come with an all-wheel drive setup.
Talking to car&bike Mohan Savarkar, Chief Product Officer and Vice President at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited, said,” There’s space in between Omega and Atlas (platforms) that needs a capable enough platform that can accommodate all-wheel drive. The platform we have made with Argos is definitely capable of all-wheel drive. The one we choose (AWD or 4WD) will be the best for this segment of cars.”

It is still not clear whether the all-wheel drive system will be made available with which engine and gearbox combination. The Sierra has 3 engine options - a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The NA petrol makes 105 bhp and 145 Nm while the Turbo-petrol version makes 158 bhp and 255 Nm. The diesel engine makes 116 bhp and 280 Nm, and along with the NA Petrol is available with Manual and automatic transmissions. The Turbo Petrol only gets an Automatic.
