- 2107 5 Series gets Steering & Lane Control Assist for hands free driving

- The new 5 Series will be make its debut in January 2017 at Detroit
Part of the safety and driver assist systems, the next generation 5 Series will be equipped with a host of tech wizardry trickled down from the new generation 7 Series. The mid-size luxury sedan will get a Steering and Lane Control Assist, which can be regarded as semi-autonomous tech and works in tandem with Active Cruise Control as well as Stop and Go function. This, in turn, allows the car to be driven by itself without any steering input required, similar to autonomous driving. The feature is already available on the flagship 7 Series and allows the car to cruise up to 210 km/h. Expect to see something similar on the new 5 Series as well.

Also making its debut on the new generation BMW 5 Series will be Crossroads Warning system, which is capable of detecting an potential collision and preconditions the braking system in the event of emergency braking to avoid an imminent collision.
These features are only just part of the ensemble of tech that will be available on the 2017 BMW 5 Series. The sedan will also come with Remote View 3D, a smartphone app that allows you to keep an eye on your car from a distance, with the help of the array of cameras all around that provide a bird's eye view of the sedan. Furthermore, the car will come with an M Sport steering wheel that is available on the 7 Series, and will move down to the 5 Series.
The new generation BMW 5 Series is slated to make its debut at the Detroit Motor Show in January next year, while production will commence at the automaker's Dingolfing facility, located in Lower Bavaria, towards the end of this year. The car will also be manufactured at BMW's Magna Steyr's Graz plant in Austria, to meet the growing demand.
The 5 Series is also one of the more popular BMWs in India and we could see the model head to the country towards the second half of 2017 as it will lock horns against the Audi A6, Jaguar XF and the new generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class, also slated for a 2017 launch in the country.
