Parking Rules and No Parking Fines in India

- It is important to stay knowledgeable about the parking fines in India
- You should ensure that the vehicle is parked as per the latest rules
- Avoid no parking zones to stop paying penalty fees
Ever since the Motor Vehicles Act has come into the effect, there has been a steady rise in the total number of fines and challans issued by the police. This has led to a lot of scenarios where the public has been made to pay penalty fines.
In simple words, if you want to avoid extra money to traffic guards, staying aware of the parking rules is pretty crucial. One of the biggest issues in big Indian metros is parking. Due to space scarcity, people tend to park their bikes and cars irresponsibly, which leads to traffic snarls. With these things in mind, let's take a glance at the parking rules in India.

Parking a Vehicle
Every driver of a motor vehicle shall park in such a manner that it doesn't cause traffic problems or obstruction. Here are some areas where you cannot park your motor vehicle illegally.
- On pavements
- Near or on the road crossing
- Near a traffic light or pavement crossing
- Opposite another parked vehicle
- Away from the edge of the footpath
- You cannot park where parking is strictly prohibited

Don't leave your Vehicle in a Dangerous Position
No person in possession of a motor vehicle shall cause or allow the vehicle or any trailer to be abandoned or to remain at rest on any public space in such a condition that causes great danger.

Removal of Abandoned Vehicles in India
Section 127 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 states the following rules that apply to abandoned motor vehicles.
- Any motor vehicle left unattended in a public parking place for more than ten hours is legal to be removed by a towing service.
- An unattended vehicle that creates a traffic hazard can be immediately removed by a towing service authorized by police officers.
- In all these cases, the owner of the vehicle is responsible. In other words, if you are the owner of the vehicle and not driving it around, you have to pay the final penalty fees.
For a vehicle removed by the towing service, the charges should be recovered from the owner of the vehicle. So as you can see, there are various repercussions of not following the parking rules in India.
Moreover, frequent challans and penalty fees can greatly tarnish the image of your vehicle. The best way to stay safe is by opting for proper parking rules. When you are knowledgeable about the latest traffic rules, there are fewer instances where you have to face harassment. So stay aware of the traffic rules and drive around the city seamlessly.
