Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler to Setup New Plant in Mexico

Daimler and Renault-Nissan have announced plans to establish a joint venture to build a new plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The plant will employ approximately 5,700 people and begin building Infiniti vehicles in 2017.
In 2018, certain Mercedes models, which have not been named yet, will also be seen on the assembly line. Daimler and Nissan will share the total investment cost for Aguascalientes of approximately 1 billion Euros.
No specifics regarding platforms or cars have been revealed yet, but we are quite certain that the MFA platform will make its way to this plant, which will help build entry-level luxury cars. The vehicles will be developed in collaboration, though both companies claim that they will be different from each other in terms of design and specifications.
According to Carlos Ghosn, CEO, Renault Nissan, "Joint development of compact premium vehicles and joint production in Aguascalientes together represent one of the largest projects between the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler. It also shows how our collaboration, which began in Europe, has become global in scope."
