Tokyo Motor Show 2017: 2018 Suzuki Swish Scooter Unveiled

The all-new 2018 Suzuki Swish scooter made its world premiere at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show amidst a host of new concepts and launches. The all-new Swish gets comprehensive design and feature upgrades in its latest version. Suzuki says the new Swish is a basic yet classy scooter "targeted at those who seek easy and agile handling in city traffic for commuting." Over the older version, the Suzuki Swish gets complete new bodywork, sporting sharp and edgy styling with the GSX-inspired headlamp. The LED turn indicators have been stylishly integrated into the apron and add a young look to the scooter. The two-tone paint scheme on the concept looks lovely.

Furthermore, the 2018 Suzuki Swish gets an LED taillight and indicators, while the scooter also gets body coloured grab handle. The scooter boasts of black cladding on some of the lower sections, which also incorporate the pillion foot pegs seamlessly. The concept gets 10-inch alloy wheels wrapped in chunky 120-section rubber. The faux air intakes on the handlebar add to the sporty look of the model.

Suzuki is yet to reveal details about the mechanicals on the 2018 Suzuki Swish. But the scooter is expected to reprise the 125 cc single-cylinder engine from the Suzuki Access 125. The motor makes 8.5 bhp and 10.2 Nm of peak torque, while paired to a CVT automatic unit. Suspension duties will include telescopic front forks and a single shock absorber at the rear. Braking performance will include a front disc brake and a drum setup at the rear.

The older Suzuki Swish was sold in India for a couple of years before being phased out of production in April 2017. It will be interesting to see if Suzuki will consider bringing the all-new model to India to be sold alongside the Access 125. With Honda readying up the Grazia scooter (rumoured to be a 125 cc model) as a premium urban offering, the 2018 Suzuki Swish could stand as a challenging alternative. Although unclear at this point, we do hope Suzuki Motorcycle India brings the new Swish to the Auto Expo next February.
