Toyota India has issued a voluntary recall for the new Camry over a software issue that affects the car’s 360-degree cameras. As per a filing with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Toyota says that faulty software in the ‘Parking Assist ECU’ could cause issues with the rearview camera function in the affected vehicles. The company says that the software error could cause the rearview display image to briefly freeze should the vehicle be put in reverse ‘within a specific time after ignition is turned on.’ The brand added that the display could also fail to activate on the next start-up ‘if the ignition is turned on or off within a specific time.’

As far as safety recalls go, this is unlikely to have any severe consequences in day-to-day driving, though drivers should avoid solely relying on the rearview camera display when reversing. Using the rear-view mirrors is also important in case of reversing to accurately check for any obstacles behind the vehicle.
