Toyota recalls 6.3 million vehicles worldwide

Toyota has issued five separate recalls that cover 6.39 million vehicles. The cars that are part of this recall are manufactured between 2004 and 2013 and a total of 27 models sold all around the world are affected by various mechanical and electronic issues, making it the second-largest recall in the automaker's history.
3.5 million cars are built from April of 2004 to December of 2010 and are being recalled to replace a spiral cable that can get damaged as the steering wheel is turned and eventually break. The company says that the driver's side airbag will not deploy in a crash if the cable is ruptured, though a warning light will come on to warn the driver of the issue.
2.32 million cars manufactured between January of 2005 and August 2010 are being recalled to fix faulty seat rails. The faulty rails can cause the seat to slide forward in the event of a crash.
Toyota models including the RAV4 SUV and Yaris subcompact. Toyota said faults were also found in the Pontiac Vibe and the Subaru Trezia, two models the automaker built for General Motors and Fuji Heavy Industries.
(Toyota recalls the Innova MPV in India)
The remaining three recalls respectively cover the starter motor, the windshield wiper motor and a bracket that holds the steering column. The Innova has been recalled in India and here is our report.
Toyota stresses that it found out about the bulk of the issues by looking at warranty claims and that no crashes or injuries have been linked to the defects.
The recall comes at a time when the company is planning to bring two new products to the Indian market namely the Etios Cross and the all-new Corolla Altis. The Japanese company is trying to right the wrong but this is the second recall on such a large scale and this time its reputation could just be the target.
