Volkswagen India To Increase Prices Across All Models From January 2017

- Volkswagen plans to increase prices across range by 3 per cent
- The price hike will affect all models in VW's line-up including the Ameo
- VW has two new models lined up for launch in 2017
Volkswagen India is the latest of auto manufacturers to increase prices across its complete model range starting from January 2017. The revision will see prices being hiked by 3 per cent depending on the product and variant, and will also affect the new Ameo subcompact sedan that went on sale earlier this year.
Volkswagen currently sells five products in the country starting from the Ameo priced from Rs. 5.24 lakh, moving to the Polo, Vento, Jetta and Beetle that is priced at Rs. 27.83 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The company also retails the performance spec Polo GTi that is priced at Rs. 26 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
It's been an eventful year for Volkswagen as the company finally made in-roads in the highly competitive subcompact sedan segment with the Ameo, while the enthusiast friendly Polo GTi was also launched this year. Then, there was also the dieselgate scandal shadowing the company throughout the year, and it finally started the recall process in India for the infamous diesel engines with the last generation Skoda Superb.
With the new year approaching faster, the German car giant will be looking forward to a positive 2017 with launches like the new generation Passat and Tiguan making it to the country.
Apart from VW, other automakers including Toyota, Tata Motors, Nissan and Hyundai India have also announced price hikes across its complete line-up in the country. While Toyota too will be increasing prices by 3 per cent from next January, Nissan will hike prices by Rs. 30,000. Tata will be pushing prices between Rs. 5000 and 25,000 across its complete line-up; whereas Hyundai has hiked prices by up to Rs. 1,00,000 starting next year.
