Volkswagen recalls batch of Passat, Jetta and Beetle globally

The German automajor Volkswagen has announced to recall a batch of its three popular models - Passat, Jetta and Beetle globally. The company said that a total of 26,452 units of Passat, Jetta and Beetle, powered by the 1.8-litre turbocharged engine will be recalled. All these vehicles were manufactured between February 1st and April 6th, 2014. There is no clarity on whether the recall includes car manufactured in India, though there are rumours about a possible recall in the sub-continent as well.
Volkswagen has informed the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) about this recall. The above-mentioned vehicles have defective o-ring seal around the air cooler in the automatic transmission system. This leads to fluid leakage as the O-ring does not affix fully between the transmission and oil-cooler. In fact in untoward condition, this could cause a fire. Though, no such incident has been reported by any buyer across the world. The main cause behind this defect is the change in the material by the supplier for the manufacturing the component, says Volkswagen.
The company will replace the faulty O-ring for free of cost. All the customers will be contacted for the recall and replacement through Volkswagen dealers. The company says that the issue was detected in March 2014, and after the investigation, VW asked its dealers to stop taking bookings for the affected models.
