The Honda City facelift in the V trim offers more value for your money

2017 Honda City V:

Petrol Manual: Rs. 9,99,990

Petrol CVT: Rs. 11,55,990

Diesel Manual: Rs. 11,53,990

Honda is offering the 2017 City facelift in a total of 11 variants that includes four for petrol, four for diesel and three for the automatic version. The V grade is available with either fuel and transmission options and clearly holds the most value for your money. The Honda City V petrol manual is priced at Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and manages to pack most of the features that are available on the model. It is the first trim to get the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink system, auto climate control, cruise control, 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, start-stop button, rear view camera, auto folding outside rear view mirrors, 8-speaker sound system as well as twin USB ports. The 2017 Honda City V also comes with the standard dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX seats as well as LED DRLs.

What you miss out though are most of the fancy bits like the electric sunroof, LED headlamps, 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, telescopic steering adjustment, leather upholstered seats, rear reading lamps, auto dimming inside rearview mirror and a full size spare wheel. When compared to the range-topping ZX trim, the V variant also misses out on the side and curtain airbags, LED tail lights, auto headlamp on and off, rain sensing wipers, adjustable rear head restraints and LED map lamps. Interestingly, the City ZX is not available on the petrol manual.

If you are on a budget, the 2017 Honda City V makes absolute sense. Even if you are not on a budget, the V grade certainly makes for a tempting proposition. More so, since a lot of the features from the top grades are avoidable. Positioned above the V trim, the City VX happens to be Rs. 1.65 lakh more expensive than the V on the petrol mill, while the price difference is similar on the diesel and CVT versions as well.

Compared to the V, the City VS is over Rs. 1.5 lakh more expensive

With respect to mechanicals, all variants use the same 1.5 litre petrol and diesel engines tuned to churn out 117 bhp and 99 bhp respectively, while transmission optiions include a 5-speed MT and CVT on the petrol and a 6-speed MT on the diesel. On the 2017 edition, the manual variants have seen a slight drop in fuel efficiency returning an ARAI certified 17.4 kmpl (petrol) and 25.6 kmpl (diesel).

What the 2017 City V manages to offer is almost all the features that Honda has advertised, while still keeping prices competitive to what the rivals in the segment retail at. This, then, is our preferred pick on the C-segment sedan and could easily be the most popular variant on the sedan.
