BMW G 310 R, G 310 GS To Be Launched In 2018

- BMW Motorrad confirms launch by second half of 2018
- BMW G 310 R will be priced to compete with KTM 390 Duke
- Both the G 310 R, and the G 310 GS will be launched in India
BMW Motorrad will launch the much-awaited BMW G 310 R in India, as well as its adventure sibling, the BMW G 310 GS by the second half of 2018. Both bikes are the smallest displacing motorcycles in the BMW Motorrad line-up and have been jointly developed with TVS Motor Company. The BMW G 310 R is, in fact, the first bike to be manufactured outside Germany, and is being manufactured by TVS at its factory in Hosur. The G 310 R is already on sale in markets abroad and apparently, BMW Motorrad is focussing on strengthening the sales and service network in India before launching the bike.

By 2018, BMW Motorrad India intends to have 10 dealerships across India. So far, BMW Motorrad already has four dealerships - in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad. By the end of 2017, the dealership footprint will be extended to include Delhi, Chennai and Cochin, and by 2018, Chandigarh and Kolkata will also be added. BMW says the company is looking to find the best partner in each city, and once the dealership network is in place, the two bikes will be launched.

The BMW G 310 R will be priced competitively and BMW Motorrad has confirmed that it will be priced to compete with the KTM 390 Duke. BMW Motorrad has positioned itself as a premium brand, so expect the bike to be slightly more expensive than the 390 Duke once it's launched in India. So we guess that puts the G 310 R's expected pricing to be around Rs. 2.5-2.75 lakh (ex-showroom). The BMW G 310 R is powered by a 313 cc, four-stroke, single cylinder engine which makes 34 bhp power and 28.4 Nm of peak torque. The G 310 GS will also get the same engine, but will get longer travel suspension, as well as a larger front wheel, to give it adventure capability.

Meanwhile, TVS is already working on undertaking final test runs of its version of the same bike. The TVS Apache RR 310 S, as it's going to be called, is almost production ready and will be a full faired sportbike sharing the same engine as the BMW G 310 R. From all indications, TVS may well be the first to launch that bike, possibly before the end of the year.
