BMW Group Registers 18% Sales Growth Through September 2021

- The BMW Group comprises the BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brands
- Sales in Q3 2021 between July & September declined by 12.2% year-on-year
- The BMW Group's EV sales nearly doubled in 2021 so far with a 98.9% hike
The BMW Group announced its global sales data up till September 2021 and the company delivered 19,32,236 units comprising BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce cars. The automaker reported a collective growth of 17.9 per cent year-on-year for the period between January and September 2021, posting a strong result. However, sales for the third quarter of 2021 between July and September saw a decline of 12.2 per cent. The automaker sold 593,189 units during this period. BMW also said that it continued to build on a strong competitive position in key markets such as the US, Europe and China.

The BMW Group's Electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid car sales volumes increased by 98.9 per cent between January and September
Pieter Nota, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for customers, brands and sales, said, "The sales success of the past nine months shows how our customers appreciate our strong, sustainable and emotionally engaging product line-up. We have so far been able to offset the semiconductor supply bottlenecks over the full year with a strong operating performance. We are confident we can meet our ambitious sales targets and achieve solid, profitable growth for 2021. We have more than doubled our sales of fully-electric vehicles since the start of the year - and are therefore underscoring our impressive electro-offensive."
BMW also revealed that the sales of its electrified vehicles nearly doubled witnessing a growth of 98.9 per cent between January and September 2021. While overall volumes were down during Q3 2021, the company's EVs and plug-in hybrid vehicles registered a 43.1 per cent growth in sales year-on-year with 78,333 units sold. A total of 59,688 pure electric vehicles have been delivered to customers with the BMW Group witnessing a 121.4 per cent increase since the start of 2021. The company also confirmed that the fully electric iX3 has given the brand a major boost in the EV space with 20,887 units sold this year so far. The company anticipates another boost in EV sales with the launch of the iX and i4 in November in global markets.

BMW plans to increases sales of its EVs by an average of 50 per cent per year till 2025
In the coming years, the BMW Group plans to bring fully electric versions of the BMW 7 Series, X1 and 5 Series. The MINI Countryman also joins the list and so does the Rolls-Royce Spectre that will arrive in the last quarter of 2023. The automaker will have at least one fully electric car on the roads by 2023 in about 90 per cent of its current market segments. It also plans to increase sales of EVs by an average of 50 per cent per year.
BMW also said that while it has been managing the semiconductor component shortage since the start of the year, it expects the supply situation to be difficult in the coming months.
