Frankfurt 2017: 2018 Volkswagen T-Roc SUV Makes Public Debut

- The 2018 Volkswagen T-Roc will go on sale internationally by year end
- Engine options will include 3 diesel and 2 petrol with AWD as optional
- The T-Roc could come to India in the future as a Jeep Compass rival
The 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show has been extremely important for Volkswagen AG as the company announced its plans for electric mobility and has showcased a host of products across its umbrella. However, grabbing a lot of attention at the VW pavilion is the all-new T-Roc SUV that has made its public debut at the annual event. The model originally started life as a concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and previews and previews the line-up renewal in Volkswagen's stable by 2020. Sales for the Volkswagen T-Roc woll commence in international markets at the end of this year, and could make it to India as well in the future.

The 2018 Volkswagen T-Roc is based on the automaker's modular transverse matrix (MQB) platform and sits below the new Tiguan SUV. The five seater crossover looks smart and urban in its appearance with the wide front grille, signature LED DRLs, while the rear gets a wraparound LED taillights and the very sporty looks twin-exhausts. Volkswagen has lent an off-road look to the new T-Roc with black plastic cladding across the wheel arches and side sills. Other interesting bits include the front and rear diffuser and a contrast finished roof.

The 2018 Volkswagen T-Roc is targeted towards the young buyers and the interior also boasts of the same. The cabin boasts of a 11.3-inch digital instrument screen that is increasingly becoming standard across most VW models. A secondary 8-inch touchscreen system also makes it to the centre console and is tilted towards the driver. Adding contrast in the all-black cabin are the body coloured bits on the dashboard, door pads and the centre panel. The fabric upholstered seats too get contrast stitching to keep up with the funky vibe of the crossover. Other features include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, inductive smartphone charging plate, Bose audio system among other features.
Under the hood, Volkswagen will be offering the T-Roc with a choice of three petrol and two diesel engines, paired to manual and automatic transmissions. There will also be Four Wheel Drive (4Motion in VW speak) on offer, on certain variants. Speaking of which, the T-Roc will be available in three trims - Standard, Style and Sport.

Volkswagen has also revealed the 2018 T-Roc R-Line at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show that adds some aggression to the SUV. The R-Line packages improve the aesthetics on VW's other products and things remain the same on the T-Roc too. The model gets meaner looking front and rear bumpers, body coloured door fenders, sporty rear diffuser, smoked red LED taillights and a black lower air-intake. The T-Roc R-Line rides on 18-inch or 19-inch wheels, depending the ones you opt for and are a finished in gunmetal grey.
Inside, the 2018 Volkswagen T-Roc R-Line gets a black headliner, R-Line logos across the cabin, contrast stitching across the seats, gearshift knob and armrests, as well as stainless steel finished pedals.

Talking about the India launch, the Volkswagen T-Roc will be positioned below the Tiguan and is likely to carry a price range between Rs. 16-20 lakh (ex-showroom), and will compete against the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson as well as the upcoming Skoda Karoq. Plans for the Indian launch are yet to be disclosed.
