Hyundai To Introduce 8 New SUVs In The US By 2020

- Hyundai's new SUVs will include the Kona, new Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport
- Hyundai will also introduce a fuel cell and electric versions of its SUVs
- A pick-up could join Hyundai's stable in the US by 2020
Hyundai Motor America has announced that it will be introducing eight SUVs in the US by the year 2020. The announcement came during a press conference at the Hyundai America Technical Centre and will include all-new and re-engineered models over the next two years. The automaker will be kick-starting its new crossover product range with the Hyundai Kona compact SUV that was unveiled earlier this year and is set to go on sale in the US in March 2018. Hyundai currently has a larger line-up of sedans and hatchbacks in its stable, which isn't much of a help with the customer base moving towards SUVs and pick-ups.

Speaking about the new launches, Hyundai Motor America - Vice President, product, corporate and digital planning, Mike O'Brien said, "The Kona is only the beginning of our product revolution for Hyundai. These vehicles are aimed squarely at the sales leaders in each segment and will emphasize Hyundai's continued focus on sustainability and efficiency without compromising performance."
While the Kona will be the first model in the new SUV stable, there will be other CUVs joining the list as well as a pick-up truck for the US market. The new lineup will encompass models from the A-segment (entry level) size class all the way up to the eight-passenger mid-size class space.

Apart from the Kona, the new line-up is likely to include the new Santa Fe Sport and a new generation Santa Fe. The latter is rumoured to get three rows this time and could also get a new moniker in the US. There will also be a host of powertrain options and fuel options on the new SUVs.
Apart from the petrol and diesel engine options, the company will also offer a fuel cell version of the Tucson, while the Kona will be offered in an electric version. Both of which are expected to arrive in 2018. Hyundai also said that the new models will see a diesel version coming in 2019, which will be joined by a new A-segment entry and a mid-size model.
The new SUVs will be making its debut at different auto shows across America including Detroit, New York and Los Angeles.
