Mahindra Marazzo vs Rivals: Specifications Comparison

- The Mahindra Marazzo is positioned between the Ertiga & Innova Crysta
- Toyota offers two diesel engines for the Innova
- Ertiga is the smallest and the most affordable MPV amongst these cars
Mahindra recently launched the all-new Marazzo MPV in India with prices starting at Rs. 9.9 lakh and going up to Rs. 13.9 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Mahindra Marazzo is an interesting proposition because not only does it compare to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which is one of the most affordable 7-seater cars in India but also the Toyota Innova Crysta, which is priced significantly higher than the Ertiga and the Marazzo as well. One could say that the Marazzo is positioned between the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta. We find out if the Marazzo has the goods to take on its two established rivals. Here is our on-paper comparison of the three MPVs.

Design
(The Mahindra Marazzo has the freshest design of the three cars in question)The three MPVs employ a distinctly different design but carry the typical MPV silhouette. The Marazzo is the newest model here and it sure looks premium with its shark-inspired design. The Innova Crysta too looks fresh and premium but it is the Ertiga which looks the most dated of the lot. Of course, there is the new-generation Ertiga on its way and it could be launched in India this year or early next year. But till then, it is the Marazzo which has the most interesting design of the three.

Engine Specifications
(The Toyota Innova Crysta has a 2.5-litre and a 2.8-litre diesel engine options)Since the Mahindra Marazzo offers only a diesel engine, we are considering only the diesel engine on the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta as well. Starting with the Ertiga, it has the smallest engine in terms of displacement and the power and torque figures, having a 1.2-litre engine that makes 89 bhp and 200 Nm. It is also the most fuel efficient MPV here by a fair margin. The Marazzo offers more power and torque than the Ertiga at 121 bhp and 300 Nm. The Marazzo and the Ertiga have a 6-speed and a 5-speed manual gearbox respectively. The Innova Crysta has two diesel engine options which are the 2.5-litre unit and the 2.8-litre unit. Both make more power and torque than the Marazzo and the Ertiga and the latter engine on the Innova has only a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Needless to say, the Innovas (2.5-litre and the 2.8-litre) are the least fuel efficient cars in this comparison.

Verdict
All things considered, Mahindra has smartly filled in the gap between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta in the 7-seater MPV segment. It offers a good mix of features, fuel efficiency and pricing. A complete road test is on the cards and we will be able to give you a clear picture on performance as well. As of now, the Marazzo looks primed and ready to take on the Ertiga and the Innova which is the segment leader. But will it be successful? Only time will tell that.
