Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Sold Twice as Many Units as Verna in Last 8 Months

Proving its critics wrong, Maruti Suzuki's only premium offering in the country today, the Ciaz, has turned out to be a great success for the company. Launched in October 2014, the Indo-Japanese carmaker has been able to sell over 42,000 units in the domestic market within eight months of its launch. The company has also exported 9,000 units of the car from India in 8 months, taking its cumulative sales to over 50,000.

With these numbers, the company has outsold the Hyundai Verna which has fallen to the third spot in the mid-sized sedan segment. And this is despite the fact that the Hyundai Verna had received a mid-life facelift earlier this year. The South Korean carmaker could just manage to sell around 21,000 units in the domestic market, which is almost half the sales of the Ciaz. That said, the Ciaz is, still, behind the Honda City that sold over 62,000 in the same duration.
At no. 4 and 5 are Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid with over 9,600 and 9,100 units respectively. And the situation is worse for other products like Nisan Sunny, Renault Scala, Fiat Linea and Ford Fiesta.
Here's the cars in this segment performed in the October, 2014 - May, 2015 period:
Honda City - 62,702 units
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz - 42,023 units
Hyundai Verna - 20,786 units
Volkswagen Vento - 9,659 units
Skoda Rapid - 9,103 units
Nissan Sunny - 2,848 units
Ford Fiesta + Classic - 2,454 units
Fiat Linea - 1,569 units
Renault Scala - 1,074 units
