New Generation Triumph Tiger 800 May Be Launched

- The Triumph Tiger 800 was first launched in 2010
- The Tiger 800 received its last comprehensive update in 2014
- A prototype of the new generation Tiger 800 was spotted earlier this year
On October 3, Triumph Motorcycles will be launching two new motorcycles at its headquarters in Hinckley, UK. One of the new models to be launched is the Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster, as we have already reported, and the second mystery model is likely to be the updated Triumph Tiger 800 for 2018. A prototype of the new generation Triumph Tiger 800 was spotted undergoing test runs in February this year, and it could well have reached production status by now. So far, there are no details on what the changes in the new Tiger 800 could be, but there could be a displacement bump in the engine along with other changes to cycle parts and instrumentation.

The Triumph Tiger 800 was first launched in 2010, with two variants, the standard Tiger 800 and the off-road oriented Tiger 800 XC. In India, Triumph Motorcycles has been operating since late 2013, and the Tiger 800XC was the first adventure model to be launched in India. The Triumph Tiger 800 received its last comprehensive update in 2014, with ride-by-wire, riding modes, cruise control and traction control. But the same engine has been carried over from the previous generation. The Tiger 800's in-line three, 800 cc engine makes 94 bhp at 9,250 rpm and 78 Nm at 7,950 rpm.

It's been three years since that update, so a full upgrade and refresh is certainly due for the Tiger 800. Triumph Motorcycles has already updated its modern classic range with all-new engines and technology last year, and earlier this year, Triumph's roadster range also received updates with the all-new Street Triple. The other adventure model in Triumph's line-up, the Tiger Explorer also received comprehensive updates this year. That leaves the Tiger 800 which is certainly due for an all-new update.

The all-new Triumph Tiger Explorer was launched earlier this year
The new generation Triumph Tiger 800 is likely to receive several updates, including changes in suspension, steering geometry and cycle parts. The test bike spied earlier this year seems to be the road-oriented XR variant, with a 19-inch front wheel and cast alloy wheels at both ends. Other updates include changes to the frame, swingarm and possibly even a full TFT instrument panel, like the one seen on the Street Triple RS. It's difficult to tell from the spy shots if the engine is all-new, but we feel the engine could also get a displacement bump, just like the Street Triple, with an increased bore and stroke, and now be a 900 cc in-line triple making over 100 bhp power. We'll of course bring all the updates on the new launches from Triumph's Hinckley headquarters on October 3 when the two new models will be unveiled.
