Okinawa Autotech Sells 15,976 Electric Scooters In Q1 FY2022

- Okinawa sold 15,976 electric scooters between April to June this fiscal
- Okinawa saw a surge in sales with the rising cost of fuel prices
- The Okinawa Praise+ and Praise Pro are the brand's popular offerings
Gurugram-based Okinawa Autotech reported its sales for the first quarter (April - June) of the 2021-22 financial year, and the company sold 15,976 electric scooters during this period. The manufacturer said that it saw a spike in sales in the recent months on the back of the rising fuel prices as well as supportive policies from several state governments inducing customers to opt for electric mobility. Okinawa says the massive surge in sales during the last quarter has helped the company position itself as a leading player in the electric vehicle business.

Okinawa sold 4467 units in April, 5649 units in May and 5860 units in June this year. In addition to the growing numbers, the company also expanded its presence in the Southern states of the country with dealerships in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. The company says it has found new customers in Madya, Bangalore, Kanchipuram, Nellore and Pune.

The Okinawa Praise+ and Praise Pro remain the strong sellers from the company
Commenting on the strong quarter sales, Jeetender Sharma, MD & Founder, Okinawa Autotech stated, After the revision to the FAME II scheme, we saw a significant increase in demand for e-scooters, and as fuel prices have risen, people have also begun to prefer the E2W over combustion-powered two-wheelers, in part because the operating costs of e-scooters are only a tenth of those of combustion-powered two-wheelers. With these two major factors, we sold 5860 scooters of various models in the last month - 80 per cent of which were our high-speed scooters. Moreover, we have been receiving an increasing number of requests and inquiries, close to a two-fold increase, from prospective consumers for various scooter models in local showrooms across India. We are satisfied with the subsidies provided by both the federal and state governments."

Okinawa also retails the Ridge electric scooter and a B2B offering for commercial applications. The company presently has over 350 dealerships across the country, and will now expand to Tier II and Tier III markets as well as rural regions.
