Petrol and diesel rates have remained stable for the third straight day across the country after taxes levied on the two auto fuels were lowered by the Centre and some states on Diwali.

Petrol and diesel prices on Sunday remained stable for the third straight day across the country after taxes levied on the two auto fuels were lowered by the Centre and some states on Diwali. The Central government has reduced the excise duty on petrol by Rs. 5 a litre while diesel saw a price cut of Rs. 10 a litre. This announcement was matched by many states and Union Territories reducing VAT rates in different proportions, which further reduced petrol and diesel prices by up to Rs. 8.7 a litre and Rs. 9.52 a litre, respectively.

Fuel prices vary from state to state because of different rates of local taxes and VAT imposed

Here are the petrol and diesel prices across six major metros on November 7, 2021:

In the national capital Delhi, petrol rates on Sunday remained stable at Rs. 103.97 a litre while diesel is being retailed at Rs. 86.67 a litre. Consumers in Mumbai have to shell out Rs. 109.98 per litre for petrol and Rs. 94.14 per litre for diesel. Petrol and diesel prices in Chennai have remained unchanged at Rs. 101.40 a litre and Rs. 91.43 a litre, respectively. In Kolkata, petrol is available at Rs. 104.67 a litre while diesel remained constant at Rs. 89.79 a litre. The two auto fuels in Bengaluru are priced at Rs. 100.58 a litre and Rs. 85.01 a litre. In Hyderabad, petrol is available at Rs. 108.20 a litre while diesel costs Rs. 94.62 a litre.

In Kolkata, petrol is available at Rs. 104.67 a litre while diesel remained constant at Rs. 89.79 a litre.

Fuel rates remain the most expensive in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan where petrol is retailed at Rs. 116.34 a litre while diesel is priced at Rs. 100.53 a litre. Customers in Madhya Pradesh's Anuppur district will have to pay Rs. 110.12 per litre for petrol and Rs. 93.53 a litre for diesel. In Rewa district, one litre of petrol costs Rs. 109.71 a litre while diesel is available at Rs. 93.16 a litre. Fuel prices in Bhopal stood at Rs. 107.23 a litre and Rs. 90.87 a litre, respectively. In Maharashtra's Parbhani district, petrol is available at Rs. 113.17 per litre and diesel costs Rs. 95.82 per litre.
