Tata Motors Reports 2,14,250 Units Global Sales In Q1 FY2022; Sees 35% Decline Against Q4 FY2021

- Tata Motors' total wholesales for Q1 FY2022 stood at 2,14,250 units
- The company's global wholesales of passenger vehicles was 1,61,780 units
- Global wholesales of all Tata Motors commercial vehicles was 52,470 units
Tata Motors Group has released the global wholesales numbers for the first quarter of Financial Year 2021-22. Between April and June 2021, the company's collective sales, including Jaguar Land Rover, stood at 2,14,250 units. Now compared to the same period last year, when the company's total sales stood at 91,594 units, Tata Motors witnessed a volume growth of 134 per cent. However, we have to consider the fact that for the most part of Q1 of FY2021, India and several global countries were under a total lockdown, heavily impacting production and retail. So, the abnormal growth could be regarded as an anomaly or a one-off event.
On the other hand, compared to 3,30,125 units sold between January and March 2021, that is Q4, FY2021, Tata Motors's global wholesales saw a decline of 35 per cent in the quarter that ended on June 30, 2021. Here too we cannot directly compare the two quarters because it was only in April that the second wave of the Coronavirus hit India, again disrupting production and retail activities.

The company's global wholesales of all passenger vehicles in Q1 FY2022 stood at 1,61,780 units, now that's higher by 102 per cent as compared to 79,996 units sold in Q1 FY2021. However, compared to 2,20,697 units sold in the Q4 of FY2021, the company saw a decline of about 27 per cent. Tata's total PV sales also include global wholesales from Jaguar Land Rover, which stood at 97,141 vehicles. This includes 12,699 units sold by CJLR, the joint venture company between JLR and Chery Automobiles. Jaguar's wholesales for the quarter were 21,373 vehicles, while Land Rover's contribution was 75,768 units.

Tata Motors' global commercial vehicle (CV) wholesales stood at 52,470 units
Global wholesales of all Tata Motors commercial vehicles and Tata Daewoo range in Q1 FY2022 were at 52,470 units, higher by 355 per cent, over 11,598 units sold in Q1 FY2021. At the same time, compared to 1,09,428 units sold between January and March 2021, the company witnessed a decline of 52 per cent in the quarter that ended on June 30, 2021.
