- Kia Stonic to make it to India with other Kia models
Kia has unveiled the design sketches for its new upcoming subcompact SUV, the Stonic. The new Stonic is essentially Kia’s version of the new Hyundai Kona and will eventually make it to India once Kia officially launches its cars in India. The new Stonic has a more crossover like design language as compared to the larger SUVs from KIA (or Hyundai) that features a more upright and more conventional SUV stance and design. The Stonic will be available in global markets by the end of 2017 and will be highly customisable. When it does make it to India, expect the new Stonic SUV to be sub 4-meters in length and go up against some tough competition like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the Ford Ecosport and a plethora of SUVs from Mahindra. The Stonic will also take on the upcoming Tata Nexon.

In terms of design language, as we mentioned earlier, the Stonic takes a more crossover-ish approach just like the Kona. However, as compared to the Kona, the design is a lot more subdued and will probably be more preferred to the common Joe too. The front design is sharp and sporty and the Kia family grille seems to be finished in a shade of satin grey along with a similarly painted front lip. The headlights do remind a little of some of the larger SUVs in the Kia range and bonnet has a semi clamshell-like design.

The profile of the new Stonic seems typically SUV like with a smaller greenhouse to body proportion. The pronounced wheel arches feature a plastic cladding and so does the side skirt. The large wheels seen here will of course not feature on the production version. That said, expect a set of 16-inch or 17-inch wheels to be standard on the Stonic. The Stonic also features a sloping roofline with a raked read bootlid. The slim LED tail lamps are well layered and the bumper features satin grey skid plate. Just like the wheels, expect the dual exhaust setup to skip the production version.
The interior is quite simple and is finished in a shade of black with a grey dashboard. The interior also gets orange accent pieces on the central tunnel and central console but we guess those will be customisable. The clean interior design also has a large centrally mounted screen – which will most likely be a touchscreen with inbuilt navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The AC controls on the bottom show two large knobs with a centrally mounted screen for temperature and mode displays along with a silver design element that seems inspired by aeronautical controls.
Kia also claims that the Stonic will be the most customisable vehicle in the line up. This means that the Stonic will have optional wheels, decal packs and interior packs with different colour combinations. The Stonic will features a petrol and diesel option when it makes its way to India and should ideally be available with both a manual and an automatic gearbox.
