Toyota C-HR Compact Crossover's Cabin Revealed

- The C-HR gets a minimalist cabin design
- Comes With a large 8-inch touch-screen and improved HMI
- The car will be introduced in European markets in 2017
The C-HR represents Toyota's jump into compact crossover segment; which is in fact creating a significant market in India and other countries. The exterior of the C-HR shows off a coupe-like build with prominent muscular lines running from the A-pillar to the C-pillar. The angular lines along the sides make it look muscular and add to the overall look. Even if you compare it to the Honda HR-V, the C-HR looks more futuristic from a design perspective and this is Toyota we're talking about; a company which has always been conservative when comes to design language.

The cabin too picks up from the 'futuristic' tag and the CH-R's asymmetrical dashboard has a simple and uncluttered layout. There's a large 8-inch touch-screen featuring a redesigned and improved HMI (Human Machine Interface) with Toyota's Multi-Media navigation platform and enhanced connected services. This does away with most of the switchgears, thus keeping it simple. All operating switchgear and the display are slightly oriented towards the driver.
Toyota says it's aware that C-HR customers will also have competitors from premium brands on their shopping list and claims to have made steps forward in perceived quality. The company states that the cabin combines a careful choice of finishes that include leather-like material for all background surfaces, a smooth Nappa grain for all touching surfaces and technical grain for all functional elements such as switchgear, along with decorative elements finished in high quality piano black and satin silver trim.

Toyota C-HR's Driver Oriented Cabin
Alexandre Gommier, from Toyota's ED2 Design Centre says, "Our aim as Toyota's European design centre was to deliver a unique style - modern and sensual at the same time. The uniqueness of the C-HR's interior design is based on a stable structure with 'Emotional Surfaces' and 'Innovative Details. These key features provided us with the opportunity to approach the design with a fresh perspective. As a result, the C-HR showcases the emotional appeal of Toyota's interiors of the future."
The C-HR will be offered in three interior colour combinations - Dark Grey, Black & Blue and Black & Brown, while the feature list includes heated seats, a smart entry system, privacy glass, bespoke upholstery with part-leather seats, Toyota's S-IPA system (Simple Intelligent Park Assist), 18-inch alloy wheels, Bi-tone metallic paintwork and a JBL premium audio system comprising an 8-channel, 576 Watt stereo amplifier and 9-speakers.

Toyota C-HR Exterior
From the Indian perspective, it isn't sub-compact as it measures in at 4360mm in length while offering a wheelbase of 2640mm. Toyota says that there is 370 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place and that's more than what the Innova offers in India. As far as the car coming to India is concerned, we surely think Toyota should take the plunge because of the way the consumers react to such cars and the trend is on the rise. But the Japanese car maker will wait and watch as it plans to introduce the car in Europe first and if India does get to see the car, it will only be in 2018, where the company might bring it to the Auto Expo to check out the reaction of the crowd and then decide on the fate of this compact crossover.
