Toyota Launches Updated Land Cruiser 200 in Japan

As far as changes go, the new Land Cruiser 200 sports elevated horizontal character lines, a new three-bar grill, chrome garnish that extends horizontally across the LED head-lamps. It also features revised side protection mouldings and door handles. Changes at the rear include a new bumper, upper tail-gate panel, combination lamps, reflectors and mudguards.
Inside, the 4WD car now offers improved functionality, 6 LED-backlit meters, and a 4.2-inch TFT colour LCD screen among other provisions.

Moving on to safety provisions, Toyota will arm the entire Land Cruiser 200 line-up with the Safety Sense P active safety package. The standard provisions under the purview of this package will include the following functions:
a. Pre-collision System with pedestrian detection
b. Radar Cruise Control (with brake control): This uses millimeter-wave radar to detect preceding vehicles and determine their speed. It then adjusts vehicle speed (within a set range) to ensure that there is a safe distance between vehicles.
c. Lane Departure Alert (LDA): This uses a camera to detect white and yellow lane markings. If the vehicle starts to deviate from the lane, LDA alerts the driver with an audio and visual alert.
d. Automatic High Beam (AHB): This system helps ensure forward visibility during nighttime driving. It uses a camera to detect the head-lamps of oncoming vehicles and the tail-lamps of vehicles ahead, and then automatically switches between high beams and low beams so as not to dazzle other drivers.

Other safety provisions on the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 SUV:
- Panoramic Multi-Terrain Monitor: Helps assess safety conditions all around the vehicle. Furthermore, one can also check the positioning of tires and safety conditions under the vehicle with the under-floor view
- Blind Spot Monitor: Uses radar to detect vehicles in adjacent lanes and helps with rear view assessment when changing lanes
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert System: Warns the driver when the Blind Spot Monitor detects a nearby vehicle when backing out of parking lots
- Hazard lights automatically flash during sudden braking as a signal to warn vehicles in the rear
- The Tire Pressure Warning System on the Multi-Information Display monitors the air pressure of each tire individually
The Land Cruiser now houses an improved 4.5-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that gets new injectors, revised mapping and a diesel particulate filter (DPF) fitted with a guard to protect it over rough roads. This motor develops an improved 268bhp while the maximum torque remains the same i.e. 650Nm.
The updated Toyota Land Cruiser's next stop is Australia - where it will be launched in October. Though the Japanese carmaker is yet to say anything about the arrival of this updated SUV in India, we expect it to arrive here in 2016.
