Triumph Scrambler 1200 Steve McQueen Edition To Be Auctioned

- Only 1,000 of the Special Edition bikes have been built across the world
- No. 0278 of the Steve McQueen Scrambler 1200 will be auctioned
- McQueen rode a bike No 278 at the 1964 International Six Days Trial Race
Triumph Motorcycles revealed the limited edition Scrambler 1200 Steve McQuen Edition in May 2021, paying homage to the iconic Triumph TR6 motorcycle which was ridden by McQueen himself in the 1963 movie, "The Great Escape." Now, one of those motorcycles, Serial No. 0278 of the 1,000 Scrambler 1200 Steve McQueen Edition bikes will be offered for public sale on August 14, 2021 in Monterey, California, at The Daytime Auction, hosted by Mecum Auctions. The proceeds of the sale will be donated to the Boys Republic, a private non-profit, non-sectarian school and treatment community for troubled youth.

The Steve McQueen Edition is based on the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE
The motorcycle put up for auction is one of an exclusive run of just 1,000 produced globally and boasts a serial number that matches the plate ran by Steve McQueen in the International Six Days Trial (ISDT). It was back in 1964 when McQueen helped to form and fund the first official Team USA to enter the famed ISDT motorcycle race held annually in Europe. His team members included Bud and Dave Etkins, Cliff Coleman and John Steen, all of whom piloted their very own Triumph motorcycles in the harrowing and iconic race. McQueen rode a motorcycle with the number 278, at the 1964 ISDT.

The Scrambler 1200 Steve McQueen edition is based the Scrambler 1200 XE and it gets a bunch of custom accessories factory-fitted along with a new colour scheme that consists of competition green fuel tank, brushed foil knee pads, gold lining, gold logos and a Steve McQueen graphic on the tank itself. Then you also have a Monza fuel-filler cap and a brushed stainless steel tank strap. The Steve McQueen Edition comes fitted with engine protection dresser bars, which add another layer of ruggedness. Fabricated from stainless steel tubing, these have an electro-polished finish and offer additional protection to the clutch and alternator covers. The Steve McQueen Edition also features a premium brown bench seat, with stitched ribbing and Triumph branding.
