Triumph Speed Twin 900, Scrambler 900 Confirmed

- Triumph Street Twin to be renamed Triumph Speed Twin 900
- Triumph Street Scrambler to be renamed Triumph Scrambler 900
- No mechanical changes on the Speed Twin 900 & Scrambler 900
Triumph Motorcycles is all set to rename its entry-level parallel-twin modern classic models, the Triumph Street Twin, and the Triumph Street Scrambler. The idea is to bring the 900 cc modern classic models more in line with their bigger 1,200 cc counterparts, and the name change first emerged in certification documents filed in Australia last month. Now, certification documents filed in the US all but confirm the fact that the Street Twin and Street Scrambler will be renamed to Speed Twin 900 and Scrambler 900.

The Triumph Street Twin will be renamed as Triumph Speed Twin 900
The use of the 'Street' name to identify a motorcycle with a relatively smaller displacement engine first started in 2007 when the 675 cc Street Triple was first launched, as a naked version of the Daytona 675. The Street Twin joined the Triumph motorcycle range in 2016 as an entry-level 900 cc derivative of the all-new 1,200 cc Triumph Bonneville.

The Triumph Street Scrambler will be renamed as Triumph Scrambler 900
The confirmation of the renaming of the models comes from a new list of type-approval documents for 2023 models, published by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The documents list both the new models, but with approval details identical to the Street Scrambler and the Street Twin, indicating that the new names will not mean there will be any mechanical changes to the bikes. The switch to the new names is likely to happen for the 2023 model range, and the bikes with the new names could be launched very soon, along with new colour options as part of a mid-year upgrade.
The only model in the Triumph range which retains the Street name is the Street Triple, while its bigger engine-d model is now called the Speed Triple 1200. It's still not clear, if Triumph will continue with the Street Triple name, or in fact, also rename the Street Triple, with the Speed Triple 765 designation in future.
