World EV Day 2021: Electric Vehicles In India Under Rs. 25 Lakh

- Tata Tigor EV is the most affordable EV in India
- The MG ZS EV offers highest drive range
- The Mahindra eKUV100 is yet to go on sale in India
On World EV Day 2021, we are reminded of the ambitious plan to target 100 per cent electrification in the country well, at least by 2050. And the pace at which mass-market carmakers are adding new electric vehicles in their portfolio, carmakers are inching closer to that target. Automakers have already started taking steps in that direction with products like the Hyundai Kona EV, MG ZS EV, Tata Nexon EV and now the recently launched 2021 Tata Tigor EV among others. Here is a list of the electric vehicles that are on sale in India under Rs. 25 lakh price range.
Tata Tigor EV

The 2021 Tata Tigor EV has adopted the brand's ZipTron powertrain also seen on the Nexon EV. Its lithium-ion battery gets IP67 certification. It gets a 26 kWh lithium-ion battery with a new permanent magnet synchronous electric motor which makes 73 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque. The EV does the 0 - 60 kmph sprint in 5.7 seconds and the ARAI certified drive range is of up to 306 km. Ex-showroom prices for the Tata Nexon EV start at Rs. 11.99 lakh for the base XE variant and going up to Rs. 12.99 lakh for the range-topping XZ+ (O) variant.

Tata Nexon EV

Prices for the Tata Nexon EV start at Rs. 13.99 lakh.
The Tata Nexon EV uses a permanent magnet AC motor which will be powered by a Lithium-Ion battery that is liquid-cooled and is IP67 certified. The Tata Nexon EV is powered by a 30.2 kWh battery offering a maximum range of over 312 km on a single charge. The new electric powertrain in the Nexon EV puts out 245 Nm of peak torque, enough to clock triple digit speeds in 9.9 seconds. The battery can be charged up to 80 per cent in 60 minutes using a fast charger while it will take 8 hours to do the same using a home charger. In fact, per minute of fast charging will give it a range of 4 km and if you have a charge of 50 per cent, the Nexon EV is good to go for 150 km, and overall the ARAI certified range is of up to 312 km. Prices for the Tata Nexon EV start at Rs. 13.99 lakh for the base XM variant and go all the way up to Rs. 16.85 lakh for the range-topping Dark XZ+ Lux trim.

Mahindra eKUV100

The Mahindra eKUV100 was introduced at the Auto Expo 2020 with prices starting at Rs. 8.25 lakh.
Now the Mahindra eKUV100 hasn't gone on sale in India yet, but it was introduced at the Auto Expo 2020 with prices starting at Rs. 8.25 lakh, making it the most affordable electric car in the country. It will be powered by a 40 kW electric motor that belts out about 53 bhp and 120 Nm of peak torque. Based on Mahindra's new MESMA 48 platform, it comes with a 15.9 kWh lithium-ion battery and offers a range of 120 km on a single charge. However, its deliveries have been delayed due to the coronavirus crisis.
Hyundai Kona Electric

The Hyundai Kona Electric Premium variant is priced at Rs. 23.79 lakh.
The Hyundai Kona electric is powered by a 39.2 kWh battery that powers a 100 kW motor which sends power to the front wheels and puts out 131 bhp and 395 Nm of peak torque. The Hyundai Kona Electric offers a range of 452 km on a single charge and can clock triple digit speeds in 9.7 second. It can be fully charged in seven to eight hours using a regular charger while a fast charger can charge the battery up to 80 per cent within an hour. The Hyundai Kona Electric Premium variant is priced at Rs. 23.79 lakh while the Premium dual-tone trim is priced at Rs. 23.99 lakh.

MG ZS EV

Ex-showroom prices for the ZS EV start at Rs. 20.99 lakh.
The MG ZS EV continues to get the same 44.5 kWh Hi-Tech battery pack that powers a permanent magnet synchronous motor. It develops 141 bhp and 353 Nm of peak torque. The electric SUV is claimed to offer a maximum range of up to 419 km when fully charged. Ex-showroom prices for the ZS EV start at Rs. 20.99 lakh for the base Excite variant and go up to Rs. 24.18 lakh for the range-topping Exclusive variant.
