Audi Q3 Petrol With 1.4-Litre TFSI Engine Imported To India

- Audi might launch a petrol variant of the Q3 in India
- The company has imported the Audi Q3 30 TFSI model for homologation
- The 1.4-litre petrol engine develops 148bhp and 250Nm of peak torque
There is a growing inclination towards petrol-powered cars among Indian buyers and it seems like Audi is planning to cater to this set of audience by introducing more petrol models in the country. This is very much evident from the fact that the carmaker chose to launch only the petrol variant of the new A4 sedan instead of the diesel.
As for the new engine itself, the new 30 TFSI unit, as mentioned before, is a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol motor that is capable of churning a maximum of 148bhp and develops a peak torque of 250Nm. The engine will come mated to an S tronic automatic gearbox, which transmits power to the front wheel. Moreover, Audi claims that the Q3 30 TFSI model can do a 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.9 seconds before it reaches the top speed of 204 km/h. In fact, it is the same entry-level petrol motor that does duty in the new Volkswagen Jetta, the new Beetle and the new A4 as well.
This particular powertrain option in the Q3 is likely to get the 'Cylinder on Demand' feature as well. What that does is, it shuts down a couple of cylinders as per the requirement, which the company claims, helps in enhancing fuel economy. Currently, the Q3 in India is powered by only a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, which is available in two states of tune - 138bhp and 174bhp. The new 30 TFSI variant will thus become the entry-level trim of the Q3 in India.
In terms of design and styling, the car will remain unchanged with no new additions. And similarly, the feature list might also remain largely similar, although, there might be a few additions. Whichever the case, we will only come to know about it once there is an official announcement from the company.
