Audi has confirmed that its all-electric Q6 will be manufactured in its Brussels facility in Belgium starting 2018. According to reports, the Q6 SUV will be based on the Audi e-tron quattro concept that was revealed at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show. The German carmaker will also manufacture the battery pack for the Q6 at the same location.

Audi has reiterated that its new SUV, which will effectively slot between the Q5 and Q7, will be powered by 3 electric motors working together with a battery pack providing enough energy to make it last for around 500 kilometres (311 miles).

Quick battery charging capabilities are set to be offered, but Audi isn't providing details about that. However, it must be noted that the aforementioned Audi e-tron quattro concept was capable of a full recharge in approximately 50 minutes. It remains to be seen whether the production model will get close to that performance.

In order to accommodate the Q6's production, Audi will need to free up capacity at its Brussels factory. The carmaker plans to juggle things around by moving the assembly of its A1 supermini from the Brussels plant to its Martorell factory in Spain. This, in turn, will have repercussions on another model as the Q3, which is currently built in Spain, will make the switch to the Gyor plant in Hungary.

Since the manufacturing of the Q6 will commence in 2018, Audi is likely to reveal the production-version of its zero-emissions SUV in the second half of 2017.

Incidentally, even though the upcoming car is widely called Q6 in the auto industry, Audi hasn't officially confirmed its name yet.
