Auto Sales January 2022: Nissan India Reports 5.7% YoY Growth At 4,250 Units

- In January 2022, Nissan India's total sales stood at 4,250 units
- Nissan also exported 1,224 units of Nissan and Datsun vehicles last month
- Nissan India has also registered a cumulative growth of 203 per cent YTD
Nissan India has released the monthly sales numbers for January 2022, during which, the company's cumulative domestic sales, from both Nissan and Datsun brands, stood at 4,250 units. Compared to the 4,021 vehicles sold during the same month in 2021, the Japanese carmaker saw a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 5.7 per cent last month. On the other hand, compared to the 3,010 units sold in December 2021, the company saw a month-on-month (MoM) growth of 41 per cent in January 2022.

As for exports, in January 2022, the company cumulatively exported 1,224 units of Nissan and Datsun branded vehicles from India. In fact, last month the company announced adding 13 new countries to the export markets of the Nissan Magnite, bringing the total to 15 overseas countries. This includs - Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Uganda, Kenya, Seychelles, Mozambique, Zambia, Mauritius, Tanzania, and Malawi.

In January 2022, the company cumulatively exported 1,224 units of Nissan and Datsun branded vehicles from India
Commenting on the company's sales performance, Rakesh Srivastava, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India said, "Nissan India registered a cumulative growth of 203 per cent year to date on the strength of strong demand for the Big, Bold, Beautiful Nissan Magnite overcoming the headwind challenges of Covid-19 & lower supplies due to semiconductor shortages. The customer response for the 'Make in India, Made for the World' SUV has been phenomenal with Nissan Magnite being exported to more than 15 countries. Going forward we do see the supply challenges to continue for a few more months while we endeavour to enhance the customer experience with the lowest cost of ownership."

Nissan's YTD cumulative export sales grew 36 per cent, compared to the same period in FY2021
Nissan India has also registered a cumulative growth of 203 per cent on year to date (YTD) basis. However, we must look at the fact that the market situation in April 2020 to January 2021 period was much worse compared to the same period in the current fiscal year. Additionally, the company's high-volume product, the Nissan Magnite was only launched in December 2020. So this three-fold growth is merely an anomaly. Nissan's YTD cumulative export sales grew 36 per cent, compared to the same period in FY2021.
