Adding some sporty style to its executive sedan, BMW India has launched the 520d M Sport in India priced at Rs. 54 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Unlike the completely bonkers M5, the 520d M Sport adds enhancements the car's looks, while keeping things practical. Built at the Chennai facility, the 5-Series is locally assembled in the country and the M Sport edition is now available in dealerships across India and is only available in the diesel avatar.
'Sporty Elegance' as BMW calls it, is the identity of the 5-Series sedan and the M aerodynamics package adds a host of new details to separate the model from the standard version. You get new 18-inch alloy wheels with double spoke design; powerful air inlets at the front for optimised airflow, side skirts with additional contour lines, while completing the package are the dark chrome exhaust pipe tips and a striking dark shadow metallic coloured diffuser. There are M badges on the front wings and M designation on the door sill strip that aid a muscular appearance. Lastly, completing the package are the LED Adaptive headlights on the 520d.
As for the interior, the sporty BMW gets electrically adjustable sports front seats upholstered in Dakota leather and comes with contrast seams. You also get an M multifunction steering wheel, while you also get an aluminium hexagon interior trim strip and BMW Individual headliner Anthracite. The 520d M Sport can be had in either the non-metallic Alpine White or the metallic Mediterranean Blue and Carbon Black paint jobs.
In terms of power, the BMW 520d M Sport uses a 1995cc four-cylinder, common rail diesel engine with a turbocharger that produces 190hp and a whopping 400Nm of torque. The motor is paired to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. This makes the 5-Series capable of hitting the 0-100 km/h in just 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 233 km/h. The sedan comes shod with BMW EfficientDynamics fuel-saving technologies including Intelligent Lightweight Construction, Auto Start-Stop, ECO PRO modes (ECOPRO, Comfort, Sport), Brake-Energy Regeneration, 50:50 Weight Distribution.
Mr. Frank Schloeder, President (Act.), BMW Group India said, "M stands for motorsport and is one of the most coveted badges that has shaped the history of performance automobiles. The next chapter of the BMW 5 Series in India will begin with the BMW 520d M Sport which embodies the athletic form of luxurious elegance. The BMW 520d M Sport with typical BMW M style and sporty genes presents the future-proof dynamics of the BMW 5 Series at its energetic best."
