Car Sales September 2017: Maruti Suzuki Shows Positive Growth

- Maruti sold a total of 1,51,400 units domestically in Sept. 2017
- The biggest growth driver were the sales of Maruti's compact cars
- The sales of Ciaz, Alto and the WagonR dipped in Sept. 2017
The sales figures for September 2017 are in. Up first is Maruti Suzuki India, which sold a total of 1, 63,071 units recording a growth of 9.3 per cent over the same period of last year. This includes 1, 51, 400 units in the domestic market and 11,671 units of exports. The company had sold a total of 1, 49, 143 units in September 2016. Interestingly, the sales of Maruti's small cars such as the Alto and the WagonR saw a dip in sales to the tune of -13.3 per cent, selling 38,479 units in September 2017 as compared to selling 44,395 units in September last year. The sales of Ciaz too fell by 14.4 per cent in last month, selling 5,603 units as compared to selling 6,544 units in September 2016. The utility vehicles segment, which includes the likes of the Vitara Brezza, Ertiga and the Gypsy saw sales of 19,900 units, which is an 8 per cent growth over September 2016's sales figures of 18,423 units.
The biggest growth for Maruti was in the compact segment which includes the likes of Swift, Dzire, Ignis, and Baleno and so on. This particular segment grew by 44.7 per cent, selling 72,804 units as compared to 50,324 units in September 2016. The company sold a total of 1, 50, 521 passenger vehicles domestically in September 2017.
