Car Sales September 2021: MG Motor India Records 28 Per Cent Sales Growth

- MG Motor sold 3241 units in September 2021.
- It recorded a month-on-month (MoM) sales decline of 24.8 per cent.
- The MoM sales decline is primarily attributed to the chip shortage issue.
MG Motor India has recorded a year-on-year (YoY) sales growth of 28 per cent in September 2021 selling 3241 units as compared to for both Hector and MG ZS EV. In fact, the company has been witnessing good traction for the MG ZS EV as the EV recorded growth for the third consecutive month with over 600 bookings in September 2021. That said, its month-on-month (MoM) sales went down by 24.88 per cent as the company sold 4315 units in August 2021. The slump in sales is primarily attributed to the chip shortage leading to supply constraints at the carmaker's end.

Rakesh Sidana, Director - Sales, MG Motor India, said, "Our production has reduced by almost one-third due to chip shortage. We expect this challenge to continue for the next few months. The semiconductor issue has been a global issue and has impacted several other industries along with the auto industry. Even India's largest carmaker - Maruti Suzuki has announced cutting its production by up to 40 per cent due to chip shortage and the issue is even more worrisome for MG given its tech laden models. MG Motor India is also gearing up to launch the MG Astor compact SUV in India this month and says that in a couple of months it should be in a better position as far as supplies are concerned as the semiconductor issue is likely to improve.
