Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has commenced export of its made-in-India motorcycles to Australia and New Zealand. The company has said that it shipped the first 250 units of the Honda SP 125 to the two countries with the models being exported as CBUs. The commuter motorcycle has been rebadged as the CB 125F for the two markets.
Speaking on this achievement Atsushi Ogata, Managing Director, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India said, “This development marks a step towards HMSI’s long term plans to expand production capabilities in India that serve globally. As HMSI’s reliable quality continues to delight customers across 38 countries around the world, we are moving ahead as per plan to expand exports footprint in the global markets.”
Honda has been exporting models from India for over 2 decades with the first model being the Activa scooter back in 2001. The company currently exports 19 two wheelers across 38 countries spread across Asia and Ocenasia, the Middle East, Europe and Latin America.
The motorcycle is being manufactured at the company’s Tapukara Plant in Alwar Rajasthan. The company had previously commenced exporting the SP 125 to European markets in 2020.
The SP 125 was Honda’s first BS6-compliant motorcycle with Honda saying that the motorcycle featured 19 new patent applications. Powering the bike is a 123.9cc single-cylinder engine that develops 10.7 bhp and 10.9 Nm of torque for the Indian market.
