Hyundai Elite i20 Gets Projector Headlamps & LED DRLs for 2016

Hyundai India has released images of the 2016 Elite i20 with new features added to the hatchback and will be one of the 17 models that the automaker plans to showcase at the auto expo next week. The Korean carmaker has updated the model a year and a half after the premium hatchback went on sale in the country, but saw volumes take a hit over the recent months as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno has witnessed a sharp growth in numbers ever since its launch last year in the same segment.

For the model year 2016, the Hyundai Elite i20 gets some prominent updates including projector headlamps with cornering lights and LED daytime running lights available as standard on the top-end Asta (O) trim. The automaker was already offering these features on the i20 Active until now. The top trim also gets the Audio Visual Navigation (AVN) system as standard and uses a 7-inch touchscreen display with Bluetooth, AUX and USB connectivity. The lower variants continue to get an LCD screen for the infotainment system.

In addition, the 2016 Hyundai Elite i20 now gets dual airbags as standard across all variants starting from the Era going up to the Asta (O). That said, the powertrain remains the same on the new Elite i20 with power coming from a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 83PS and 115Nm of torque while paired to a 5-speed gearbox. Diesel power comes from a 1.4-litre CRDi motor churning out 90PS and 220Nm of torque, whilst paired to a 6-speed gearbox.
Unlike the competition, Hyundai still isn't offering an automatic transmission on the 2016 Elite i20 though. Furthermore, dealers have conveyed that production commenced on January 18 for the updated model and deliveries are promised within 20-25 days from the date of booking. The Sportz (O) variant has also been discontinued as per certain dealerships.

Part of the display lineup will be the new Tucson premium SUV that will go on sale in June; the automaker's new luxury brand Genesis and the N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo concept car. Hyundai will also showcase the Elite i20's sportier cousin under the 'N' performance brand.
