Hyundai i20 Automatic To Be Launched In May 2018

Hyundai launched the facelift of the i20 at the Auto Expo this month and prices start from Rs. 5.34 lakh. It's available in both the petrol and diesel powertrains but for now comes only with the manual transmission. The petrol 1.2-litre gets the 5-speed manual while the diesel 1.4-litre comes with the 6-speed manual gearbox. But of course, the balance seems to be tilting towards consumers needing an automatic gearbox and Hyundai is planning to get it on the new i20 soon. The company has said that there is a CVT offering coming soon and will be launched by May this year.
Hyundai had previously launched the automatic in the i20 in 2016 and it was a 4-speed unit that the car got this time around. But there are a few changes that we might get to see when the CVT is launched in May as it is likely to be a 5-speed unit. The CVT will be made available with the 1.2-litre petrol engine which is tuned for 82 bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque. Clearly the 1.4-litre with the torque convertor were proving to be a bit expensive for the Indian market and hence the decision to shift to something more affordable. Expect prices of the automatic variant to start at around Rs. 7 lakh.

The i20 currently only comes with the manual transmission
We already have seen the changes that the new i20 gets at the Auto Expo. It comes with the new black cascading grille, revised headlamps with new LED daytime running lamps, and a new bumper housing the new arrowhead foglamps, and an integrated spoiler. The rear, on the other hand, looks a lot fresher with the new taillamp cluster, new sculpted hatch door, and an all-new rear bumper with large matte black insert and reflectors. The cabin is not all new but there are quite a few changes that you see being made. The infotainment cluster is all new and features a larger touchscreen panel. It now comes loaded with inbuilt navigation, Apple Carplay and Android Auto like earlier but with a nicer and more responsive screen.
The i20 Automatic when launched will go up against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno automatic and the Honda Jazz automatic.
