Koenigsegg Reveals the Regera Megacar Which Goes From 0-400km/h in 20 Seconds

Koenigsegg has officially revealed the Regera megacar and the details of this car are absolutely juicy. According to the Swedish car manufacturer, the car was created as a luxury Megacar alternative to Koenigsegg's traditional extreme lightweight race-like road cars.
Regera is the Swedish word for 'reign' and Koenigsegg says that the Regera has an alter ego which gives it a Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde persona and how correct are they! It might ooze luxury but at the heart is a Koenigsegg Direct Drive system that combines a 5.0-litre V8 engine with three electric motors for a total output of way over 1500 bhp.

The technology replaces the traditional transmission and creates direct drive to the rear axle from the combustion engine without the need of multitude gears or other traditional types of variable transmissions. The KDD reduces drivetrain losses by over 50%, compared to traditional transmissions or CVTs.
The system features three electric motors - one on each rear wheel for an electric direct drive and one on the crankshaft, giving torque-fill, electrical generation and starter motor functionality. According to Koenigsegg this is the most powerful electrical motor set-up in production car history. The electric motors are powered by a 9.27 kWh, 620 Volt battery pack.
The Regera weighs in at 1,420 kg and the KDD itself weighs about 88kg. But of course you want to know how quick it is and well Koenigsegg hasn't disappointed. The preliminary acceleration times were confirmed by the manufacturer; so, 0-100km/h takes 2.8 seconds, 150-250 km/h takes 3.2 seconds, while a sprint from 0-400 km/h is performed in only 20 seconds.

In addition to the KDD system, the Regera also features the world's first fully foldable, active, top-mounted rear wing, an Akrapovic exhaust system and is the first car in the world that operates all body closures completely automatically. Another big leap is that all these operations can be controlled from a smartphone. Should it then be renamed as Megatron?

Koenigsegg will produce only 80 Regeras, a number according to them symbolizes the principle of domination, control and achievement in Pythagorean Numerology.
