Mahindra To Put Greater Focus On Electric Vehicles

- Company to put greater focus on EVs in coming years
- Company to reveal new details on Born Electric models on August 15
- Company targets up to 30% of sales from EVs by FY2027
Mahindra has said that it will be putting greater focus on its upcoming electric model portfolio. The company is set to introduce a new subsidiary branching out into electric four wheelers for the passenger market with as many as five new electric SUVs in the pipeline. Speaking to carandbike on the sidelines of its new EV strategic investment announcement Anish Shah, MD and CEO, Mahindra & Mahindra said that the company’s next big model would be electric. He however did not go into much detail saying that more would be revealed on August 15.
Shah was answering a question on what could be expected to from brand following three consecutive years of big launches which included the new Thar, the XUV700 and most recently the new Scorpio-N.
“So right now, given that we have done five blockbuster launches, our next big focus is on electric,” said Shah.
“There will be more on the ICE front as well, but I would say sort of after the electric focus,” he added though he did not go into much detail.
Mahindra is set to reveal details on its upcoming Born Electric range of SUVs on August 15 with an all-electric XUV400 debuting in the following month. The XUV400 is set to go on sale by the fourth quarter of the current financial year while the Born Electric line-up is set to spawn four new EVs by 2027. Shah though said that there would still be things in store from internal combustion engine (ICE) models.
Compared to the XUV400, the Born Electric SUVs will be developed from the grounds up as electric vehicles. Mahindra is targeting to have about 30 per cent of its annual sales by FY2027 to come from electric models with a peak target of 2 lakh units per annum.
