Maruti Suzuki Drops New Teaser For Off-Roader, Is This The Jimny?

- The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is likely to get a 1.5-litre petrol engine
- India is expected to get the 5-door version of the Jimny SUV
- The Jimny SUV was showcased at the Auto Expo last year
Maruti Suzuki India has dropped a teaser for a new upcoming car on the social media handle of Nexa. The teaser reads, "This just in! A wild adventurous ride has been spotted making its way through different terrains! The one question is, what car is this?" We believe this could be the Jimny SUV, which is one of the highly-anticipated SUVs from Maruti Suzuki's stable. While the Indo-Japanese already makes the 3-door version of the SUV for export markets, India is expected to get the 5-door version of the Jimny, which is currently under works.

With the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha already on sale, Maruti Suzuki will be looking to introduce the Jimny soon. We expect the long-wheelbase version to be introduced in 2022. The SUV was showcased to us at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The carmaker is also expected to launch the Jimny SUV in the Indian market as a rebadged Gypsy, as the nameplate still holds a strong following. However, the company has remained silent about Jimny's launch timeline. Once launched, the SUV will take on the likes of the all-new Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. It will be retailed in the country through Maruti's premium retail network - Nexa.
