Maruti Suzuki's Production Down By 74.4 Per Cent In May 2021

- Maruti Suzuki's production in May stood at 40,924 units, a 74.4% drop
- Production of Alto and S-Presso stood at 4,896 units in May 2021
- Production of B-segment cars stood at 25,130 units last month
The country's leading auto manufacturing company Maruti Suzuki India has officially announced production figures for the month of May 2021. The carmaker manufactured 40,924 units last month, registering a de-growth of 74.4 per cent as compared to 159,955 units produced in April 2021. Last month, the company had temporarily halted production from May 1 to May 16, 2021, to divert oxygen from Industrial use for medical purposes. Moreover, the company had witnessed production disruption owing to lockdowns last year in May, as the entire automobile industry was affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Maruti Suzuki's total production in May 2020 stood at just 3,714 units.

Production of the B-segment cars declined to 25,130 units in May this year, as against 83,432 units produced in April 2021
The production of entry-level cars including the Maruti Suzuki Alto and the S-Presso stood at 4,896 units last month as against 29,056 units in April this year. Production of the B-segment cars like the Celerio, WagonR, Swift, Ignis, Baleno, and Dzire, declined to 25,130 units in May this year, as against 83,432 units produced in April 2021. At the same time, production of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz declined to 534 units in May 2021, as compared to 2,194 units in April.
Coming to the utility vehicle segment, production of cars like the Gypsy, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza and the XL6 declined to 9,106 units last month, as compared to 31,059 units in April this year. The carmaker produced 962 units of the Eeco van in May 2021 as compared to 11,844 units manufactured in April 2021.

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki also manufactured 296 units of the Super Carry light commercial vehicle (LCV) seeing a Month-on-Month (M-o-M) decline of 87.5 per cent when compared to 2,370 units manufactured in April 2021.
