- The MG ZS EV accounts for about 250 to 300 units a month
- The ZS EV can offer a maximum range of up to 419 km
Morris Garages India is one of the few mainstream electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers in the country, and its ZS EV is certainly a capable electric SUV. The company is witnessing great demand for the electric compact SUV, and last month, in August 2021, MG Motor India received its highest-ever monthly bookings, crossing the 700 units mark. Sharing the numbers on social media, Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director, MG Motor India said, "We received more than 700 ZS EV bookings in August! And some say India is not ready for EV!! I reckon long way to go for meaningful electrification and many things to be done but the numbers are eye-opener for sure!"

Electric vehicles are still in their nascent stage in India, however, in the last couple of years, we have seen a massive rise in demand. In fact, in FY2020-21, electric four-wheeler sales saw 53 per cent growth compare to the previous fiscal year. While currently, the Tata Nexon EV has been the top-selling electric passenger car In the county, selling close to 500 units a month, the MG ZS EV is a close second doing an average of 250 to 300 units a month.

The 2021 MG ZS EV electric SUV comes with a 44.5 kWh Hi-Tech battery pack and a maximum range of up to 419 km
However, the bigger problem that EV manufacturers, and other automakers, are currently facing is on the supply side rather than the demand. And that is mainly due to the global shortage of semiconductor chips. In fact, announcing the sales numbers for August 2021, Chaba said, "We are witnessing busy dealerships, eagerly seeking more inventory. However, the severe shortage of chips is expected to continue till the end of the year, leading to production constraints. We expect manufacturing in September to be severely impacted, which will be lower than August." Last month, rival Tata Motors also said that it's only able to produce a third of the total number of bookings that the company is getting for the Nexon EV.
