New-Gen Skoda Octavia Likely To Be Launched On June 10: Report

- The Skoda Octavia is expected to be launched in June 2021
- The new Octavia is manufactured at Skoda's Aurangabad plant
- The new Skoda Octavia will be a petrol-only model
The new-generation Skoda Octavia is one of the highly anticipated launches for this year, and the car is likely to go on sale in India on June 10, 2021. While there is no official confirmation on the date, an image of a dealer communication sent to a customer has surfaced online, which states the launch date. Sources in the know have told carandbike that while Skoda is considering June 10 for the launch of the Octavia, the date hasn't been finalised yet, as the company is awaiting clarity on the status of the COVID-19 lockdown currently imposed in Maharashtra and several other states. As of now, the lockdown is expected to be lifted on June 1, 2021, so we expect more details to come out soon.

The report is in line with Skoda Auto India's Brand Director, Zac Hollis' reply to a Twitter user, sent out last week. Replying to a Twitter user, who was asking about the new-gen Octavia's launch, Hollis said, "I am very much looking forward to launching the Octavia next month." On the same thread, when another user asked about the colour options for the new Skoda Octavia, Hollis again replied saying that all the details will be announced next month (June 2021).

The image that floating on the internet also states that the company will soon begin despatches, and the on-road price of the car could be around Rs. 27.5 lakh to Rs. 32 lakh. However, our sources have said that none of this is accurate. Having said that, we would expect the new Skoda Octavia to be priced in the country between Rs. 18 lakh to Rs. 25 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Earlier, at the start of April 2021, Skoda announced commencing series production of the new-gen Octavia, at its manufacturing facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. In fact, the first unit to roll out of the production line was the top-spec Lauren & Klement variant of the sedan that comes in the new signature Lava Blue colour.

While details regarding the engine specifications are yet to be announced, we expect the new-gen Skoda Octavia is likely to get a 2.0-litre TSI engine that makes 188 bhp and 320 Nm. The engine will be offered only with a DSG automatic transmission as standard. Skoda could also offer the Karoq's 1.5-litre TSI four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 148 bhp and 250 Nm, however, these details will be confirmed closer to the launch.
