Nissan Manufactures 150 Million Cars In 84 Years

- Nissan produced 100 million cars in 73 years
- The last 50 million has taken just 11 years
- Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi alliance sold more cars than VW, Toyota
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Has reached a production milestone of 150 million vehicles globally. While Nissan hasn’t really mentioned which was the car to take it across that mark and it may be hard to tell too, given that the company has multiple production lines across the global which operate simultaneously. It has taken the company 73 years to produce its first 100 million vehicles after the company was founded in 1933, and another 11 years to build the last 50 million.
Nissan sees this achievement as the result of 84 years of continued support from all of its stakeholders worldwide, including employees, dealers, suppliers and local communities, as well as the numerous customers who have chosen cars produced by Nissan. When Nissan reached the 100 million vehicle milestone in 2006, 76.5 per cent of the total vehicles had been produced in Japan. Localization of production accelerated in the past 11 years, during which 76.5 per cent of the 50 million Nissan vehicles were made outside Japan – driven in particular by the U.S. and China.

The U.S. accounts for 10.8 percent of Nissan cars produced, while China and Mexico each represent 7.9 percent. 6.2 percent came from the UK, while 2.4 percent were built in Spain. Other countries make up the remaining 5.8 percent of production, which also includes India where the company builds the Micra and the Sunny.
There was another milestone celebrated recently by the Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi alliance as it sold 10 million cars in a year combined which sees one of the largest automotive partnership breeze past groups like Toyota and even Volkswagen. With the launch of the new Leaf electric vehicle, Nissan would look to consolidate its position as an electric car maker and with nations across the globe embracing electric vehicles, we may see it cross another milestone soon.
