Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi Collectively Sell 10.6 Million Cars In 2017

- Groupe Renault's total sales accounted for 3.76 million (3,761,634) units
- Nissan sold 5.81 million (5,816,278) vehicles worldwide last year
- Mitsubishi Motors sold 1.03 million (1,030,454) vehicles in 2017
Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance has announced that the carmakers have collectively sold over 10.6 million vehicles during the 2017 calendar year. The total number of vehicles sold in the last 12 months, up till December 31, 2017, by the three companies stand at 10,608,366 units, registering a cumulative growth of 6.5 per cent. In fact, the company claims that one in nine passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sold worldwide came from one of these three brands. 2017 was also the first year where Mitsubishi Motors was fully a part of the membership of the Alliance.
Commenting on this massive feat, Carlos Ghosn, chairman and chief executive officer of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, said, "With more than 10.6 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles sold in 2017, Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi has become the number-one automotive group worldwide. This evolution reflects the breadth and depth of our model range, our global market presence and the customer appeal of our vehicle technologies."
Individual numbers were also pretty promising for each of these three brands in 2017. Groupe Renault's total sales accounted for 3,761,634 units in 2017, seeing a growth of 8.5 per cent that itself was a record number for Renault. The French carmaker says that it hopes to see continued growth in 2018 as well, which will be aided by the development of its international activities and its renewed range, in line with the company's 'Drive The Future' plan. Nissan Motor Company, on the other hand, sold 5,816,278 vehicles worldwide last year, registering a total growth of 4.6 per cent. In the USA and China, two of its top markets, the company achieved sales growth of 1.9 per cent and 12.2 per cent respectively, 2017. Infiniti sold 246,492 vehicles in 2017, an increase of 7 per cent from the previous year.
As for Mitsubishi Motors, the carmaker sold 1,030,454 vehicles in 2017, seeing a growth of 10 per cent against sales in 2016. The increase in volume was led by China, a key market for Mitsubishi Motors' Drive For Growth plan. Annual sales rose by 56 percent, to 129,160 units. China became Mitsubishi Motors' largest market thanks to strong demand for the locally produced Outlander.
